Who are we?

Sashaktikaran Foundation is a not for profit organization based out of Jaipur.

We envision to enable children in Rajasthan with basic literacy, empower them with values and expose them to opportunities to explore themselves as well as the outside world.

We do this by creating schools into a sustainable learning system where every stakeholder- Principal, teachers, students as well as parents are collectively committed towards a collective vision and constantly learning to improve themselves for the best of children studying in school.

Parivartan

A School Transformation Project

It is a school quality reinforcement project with a low income school called Geeta Ashram Children’s School.

Geeta Ashram tasks under a trust by the name Raghukul Shiksha Samiti. Today, the school has enrolled students from Nursery to Grade 8. Majority students in the school commute from Sushil Pura and Ashok Pura Kachi Basti, localities near Sodala Area in Jaipur. In these communities, children seeking education are first generation learners, most of their parents working as drivers or street vendors.

Like many low income schools, the school had been struggling to provide an enabling atmosphere for everyone to learn and grow. The school was facing severe shortage of teachers and the teachers already present were overburdened with work and because of lack of an enabling atmosphere were showing least interest to do something about it. As a result the children coming to school were not getting the education that they deserve.

After our intervention in 2017, we have been able to transform the culture in the school positively and are continuing in the same direction. We find one of the most passionate and committed individuals from Jaipur to be catalysts for the change we intend to bring. These young and enthusiastic change-makers work towards our vision of empowerment through education every day in classrooms, in teacher spaces as well as in parental community.

We believe these change-makers bring about an extraordinary change every day in most ordinary ways.

I was hopeless for the school few months back. There was no life in the school. Everything was just happening effortlessly and I was not able to understand how to change it. I think this programme brought life to school. Everyone wants to work and learn so do I. Now, I am hopeful for the future.

I have been in this school for 14 years. After this programme, our staff has changed a lot. All new teachers are very hard working and teach with a lot of love and passion. Seeing them I realise we teachers have a lot to learn from the young generation. All our kids come from difficult backgrounds but seeing their dreams come alive is amazing. Encouraging kids in activities they like pushes them to do better in academics also. That is something I have learnt recently.

I have been studying in this school for four years. Our school has changed a lot this year. Everyone wants to learn. Classes have changed a lot. Now every class has one teacher. I feel happy and did not go to my cousin’s wedding with my family because I did not want to miss my class.

I teach music in school. Coming to school everyday and being able to see joy and hope you create in the classroom is a blessing. Even when I have working Saturdays, I make sure I come for two hours that I have committed. That’s how this space makes me feel.

Change maker (2017-18)

This programme has transformed me the way I never thought it will. I never woke up on time. Now I wake up at 6 to reach school on time. I learn to be patient every single day. I am very hopeful for the future and I think I am making a difference not just in my class but also in school and that way in the society.
